Holiday Memories Wine’s that take us back
Finally, after a long couple of years battling to get away with the Corona virus pandemic. Yes at last a holiday!
Most of us when we go abroad, we look to relax with a glass of wine, however when we get back those holiday memories don’t need to become a distant memory, here’s a selection I have handpicked so you can take a trip down holiday lane at home.
TAKE ME BACK!
GPG Garganega Pinot Grigio, DOC Garda £6.99
Produced from Garganega grapes grown in the Garda DOC region between Lake Garda and Vicenza, with the addition of 15% Pinot Grigio. Gentle pressing, fermentation at 16 to 18C with selected yeasts, bottling after 3 months on fine lees.
Tasting notes – Lightly aromatic with green apple and citrus characters. A zesty, easy to drink dry white wine with crisp, lightly honeyed fruit on the finish.
Food match – Highly versatile, ideal as an aperitif or with seafood, grilled fish, salads and cold white meats.
Lieux Perdus Pinot Noir Rosé, Pays d’Oc £9.50
Production
Lieux Perdus translates to ‘Lost Places’…we wanted this wine to express escapism and a feeling of being free-spirited. We commissioned an artist, Timothy Birch, to create the artwork that was able to capture this, and our in-house design team turned it into a label. Grapes are sourced from vineyards near the famous “Bassin de Thau” and the village of Pezenas. This delicate rosé is made using the classic rosé de presse method combined with the expertise of white wine vinifcation; Pinot Noir grapes are gently pressed to extract the colour without tannin and cool vinified to capture all the delicate aromatics and flavours. To maintain freshness the wine is then bottled under screwcap.
Tasting notes – Light, dry, pretty pink; strawberries aromas lead to a palate packed full of creamy red fruit flavours balanced with a bright, blackurrant finish.
Food match- Pair with fresh seafood and light salads, preferably enjoyed sitting under an umbrella in the sun, overlooking the Mediterranean. Even the label screams beach holiday!
Ingeno Organic Nero d’Avola £9.50
Producer Summary – Intelligent winemaking inspired by nature to produce expressive, organic wines from Sicily.
Long Tasting Note – This organic Nero d Avola has a vibrant ruby hue with enticing aromas of blueberry and black cherry. The wine is beautifully integrated and concentrated with forest fruits and spiced plum on the palate and a long, warming finish. Ideal on its own or with chargrilled meats and rich pasta dishes.
Tuna Club Verdejo Sauvignon Blanc £8.50
Producer Summary – Inspired by the illustrious Tuna Club of Catalina Island, Tuna Club Verdejo-Sauvignon Blanc from Castilla la Mancha is a zesty and crisp white wine and a perfect accompaniment for fish and seafood dishes.
Long Tasting Note – Pale lemon in colour with fresh aromas of melon and citrus. Refreshing and crisp with flecks of pear and a light minerality on the palate which gives this wine a clean and bright texture and a long, juicy finish.
Papagiannakos Savatiano 2020 £13.99
Tasting notes – Fresh fennel and floral aromas leading onto a broad peachy palate with lemon and herbal characters. The wine is textural with a crisp, citrus-tinged, yet balanced finish.
Food match – Drink with fish, seafood and grilled white meats.
Speaking from personal experience from my trip to Lesvos i can say that my local Greek wine experiences were almost 100% delicious. Such aromatic, zesty fresh wines. And very easy drinking.
Not so sure the place I am going to next will have their own wines. Might be a bit too cold.
